My first campaign literature. Can you guess where this is? If you think you know, send me an email!
So, this has nothing to do with the campaign. But, my son Miles and I were walking in the forest today and saw these tracks in the fresh snow. We followed the tracks for about a 1/2 hour and then spotted this skunk about 50 yards ahead in the Hubbard Recreation & Natural Area. It was so cool!

I am so excited to announce that I am one of two candidates nationwide to have earned the support and endorsement of Run on Climate, an organization devoted to building the climate movement by empowering climate champions to build successful campaigns for local office and enact policies that move their communities off of fossil fuels as quickly as possible. I am really looking forward to tapping into their network of local policy experts.

I have lawn signs! For now, these can be placed on any snow bank on private property (or anywhere else on private property 😀 ). Two weeks before the election, we can start placing them on public spaces. Please email me if you would like a sign.

Today I was, as usual, listening to my very favorite podcast How to Save a Planet and, in particular, to Episode 94 “Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson Helps You Find Your Climate Superpower“. At the 10:55 mark Doctor Johnson talks about how important it is for climate champions to run for City Council positions!

The candidate slate is now final and I will be running against Jimmy Leas for the 3-year seat. My friend and colleague Paul Engels will be running for the 2-year seat and will have two opponents. I strongly support Paul for council and will be working hard to try to get both of us elected. I hope you will support both Paul and I. In the meantime, please be on the lookout for this postcard that I just mailed out and please email me if you get one. Also, contributions to my campaign would be most welcome!

Not exactly related to the campaign, but in the past few weeks I have been very involved as a member of the planning commission helping the City address potential state legislation that could significantly impact South Burlington’s zoning regulations, and undermine much of our natural resource protection. With the help of the planning commission, the City provided this written testimony to the Senate Committee considering the legislation, and Helen Riehle and Paul Connor provided oral testimony to the committee that can be viewed here at the 50 minute mark.

The campaign is in full swing and I have been really enjoying meeting and talking with people from all over the City. Thank you so much to my supporters for the wonderful meet and greets at your homes!
There will be a live debate this Thursday, February 16th at 5pm in the Auditorium at South Burlington City Hall (180 Market Street). You can also join virtually at: https://meet.goto.com/SouthBurlingtonVT/candidateforum02-16-2023.
Please bring your questions and show your support. I hope to see you there, either in person or online.
Not exactly related to the campaign, but very relevant to our community, I sent in this testimony today in respect of potential state legislation that could significantly impact South Burlington’s zoning regulations, and undermine much of our natural resource protection. I would encourage all to write about this very important legislation that would strike at the heart of our community.

So grateful for this endorsement from Michael Pieciak, Vermont State Treasurer:
“Andrew’s background and experience position him well to be a good steward of the city’s finances and tackle the need for more affordable housing while protecting our environment. He will be a strong voice on the city council for the residents of South Burlington and for future generations.”
And, thank you Tim Barritt and Daniel Seff for their terrific posts in support of my candidacy today.

I am humbled and grateful to have earned the support of this amazing community. As I said when I started this race, I love South Burlington and I am ready to get to work for all of us. Campaigning was hard work, but walking all around South Burlington these past few weeks, knocking on hundreds of doors and talking to many good people was really important to me. I made some new friends and had meaningful conversations. To me, the most important thing we can do to make this a better place and meet our challenges is to talk to each other sincerely and with open minds and hearts, and I am so excited to have those conversations.
